The Keys of Solomon are two distinct grimoires, or books on magic incorrectly attributed to King Solomon. They likely date back to the 14th or 15th century Italian Renaissance, and present a typical example of Renaissance magic. It is possible that the Greater Key of Solomon inspired later works, particularly the 17th century grimoire also known as Clavicula Salomonis or The Lesser Key of Solomon, although there are many differences between the books. Many such grimoires attributed to King Solomon were written in this period, ultimately influenced by earlier (High Medieval) works of the Jewish kabbalists and Arab alchemists, which in turn hark back to Greco-Roman magic of Late Antiquity. Several versions of the Key of Solomon exist, in various translations, and with minor or significant differences.

I have been using this book for years in my obeah/palo/vodun practice. the rituals contained within works, while I'm not a christian or even follow that doctrine, I do recognize a lot of it was plagiarized from other ancient sources so its not entirely worthless, I do however adapt it to my own personal preference and incorporate my own deities of the afrikan paths rather than christian deities and it works, this book has some of the best conjurations I have seen anywhere and its also an excellent source to activating the Solomon talisman and seals, this is old school ritualistic magic, not for the new age fluff bunnies. these types of magical text have been around for a hundreds of years and have been used by practitioners of all paths, this is magic that you must study, practice and do the rituals to experience success. there is not fast food approach to this magical system, this is the system of the learned.I would also like to caution using your own blood to activate talisman for anyone other than self. I made the mistake of doing this for a client who was a police officer who came to see me for some spiritual work, now I won't go into details on his exact issues other than to say he was also a bounty hunter of criminals, after casting a circle and cleaning him off, I meditated on the talisman he needed, and it was revealed to me to purchase a seal of Saturn talisman, after doing the work to activate this seal I was then lead to put a drop of my blood on it and do some more rituals to activate it before placing it around his neck, I was physically weakened for almost three months while he wore it. now while he achieved his desired aim, it took a lot of my energy to help him acquire this. now I don't now why I was led to put a drop of my own blood on a talisman, as I have never done that for a client,
I guess with all that was going on around him he needed a drop of witches blood. *note to self never place your blood on talisman for others* you should heed the warnings about blood at the beginning of this text, the rules are in place for a reason, unless your an seasoned demonologist which I was not at that time and lucky for me I did not bring grave harm to myself, other than feeling like complete and utter crap for three months which as not fun!! I find this magical text to be very effective in magical works and can be incorporated in a variety of spiritual paths, the works within can also be fused with other systems. in fact this is one of the magical text used in obeah.

Mathers could have done a better job in organizing the plates to the content so that the reader didn't constantly have to jump chapters for the plate information to be of use. However, if you're interested in learning where some of the signs come from in British Traditions of Wicca this was Gardner's source book on it. The techniques are hardly respectful behavior but, we are talking about a Medieval grimoire so courtesy was not exactly a virtue of the original author. All in all the translation and and plates make for a good read without the nuances of antiquated english.
This book was very interesting to a person who is looking into the deeper mysteries. It is true that King Solomon himself was a Magi. This book actually talks about the signet ring and explains the meaning of the Star of David. I would not suggest the experimenting of the formulas for the book also explains that not all the formula is there. Those of less understanding has taken something so precious and destroyed the outcome. It is better to leave alone than to find yourself in the company of the Dark Side. You will NOT be able to control the spirits of the Dark Side like Solomon for you will be lacking important information needed that once was there.

This is a wonderful guide if you are interested in getting any of the Talismans, or learning about them. I really *not* into spells of any kind, so the parts that address that I intentionally overlooked. If you are a student of Kaballah (as I am) you can find much here - but it's super in-depth, no light reading here at all.
I'm personally fascinated by King Solomon - if you are, this book won't disappoint you.
A nice introduction to Solomon's Seals...
I was expecting a different grimore and more details as well as backround. Disappointed
I have one physical copy and 2 digital of the Key of Solomon. This is by far the best translation. It has fewer diagrams but that is the only issue
